Understanding HCAD's Digital Systems: iFile and iSettle

Harris County Appraisal District (HCAD) offers two key digital systems to streamline the property assessment and protest process. These platforms provide convenient alternatives to in-person visits and paper documentation.

iFile: Electronic Correspondence System

iFile serves as HCAD's electronic correspondence system. This platform allows property owners to submit documents, receive notifications, and communicate with the appraisal district digitally. Property owners can use iFile to:

  • Submit protest applications
  • Upload supporting documentation
  • Receive correspondence from HCAD
  • Track the status of their protests

iSettle: Electronic Hearing Platform

iSettle is HCAD's electronic hearing program that enables property owners to resolve valuation disputes without attending in-person hearings. Through this system, property owners can:

  • Submit their opinion of value
  • Upload all relevant evidence to support their case
  • Receive a counter offer or agreement from an HCAD appraiser

The iSettle process is straightforward:

  1. Property owner submits their evidence and proposed value
  2. An appraiser reviews the submission
  3. The appraiser either agrees with the proposed value or makes a counter offer
  4. If no agreement is reached, a formal hearing is automatically scheduled

These digital systems represent HCAD's efforts to make the property tax assessment and protest process more accessible and efficient for property owners throughout Harris County.
